My Favorite Movie Quotes
I watch a lot of movies because I’m an asocial homebody and they do all the living for me. Why play sports when I can just watch Major League or […]
If you follow folks like Katie Perry or Kim Kardashian on Twitter, I won’t judge you (outside of assuming that you’re a vapid stooge and somehow even less intelligent than they are). But there are definitely celebrities out there that know how to bring some real entertainment in 140 characters or less. Here are a few of my favorites:
Given I haven’t closely followed his career and can’t name a song of his beyond “Party Hard,” it’s weird that Andrew W.K. was one of the first celebs I followed on Twitter. I haven’t regretted it for a second, though. His “Party Tip” series of Tweets never ceases to amuse, especially when you read things like “PARTY TIP: Do something sexual” immediately followed by “PARTY TIP: Let’s dedicate all our Saturday partying to God.” Yes, Andrew’s schtick is a little one-note, but when it’s such a good note, I don’t really mind.
While most talk jocks do decent job with Twitter, I feel the Opie & Anthony crew, pound for pound, are the best at it. Opie is always good for a mix of groaners and real laughs, Anthony brings an adorable melange of brilliant insights, gun talk and virulent racism to the table, and Jim Norton is one of the only comedians out there that uses Twitter to share some of his best material instead of hoarding it for his act while deluging you with a list of upcoming appearances. They’re all worth a look.
I love David Alan Grier because he actually replies to Tweets directed at him like a normal human being. The first time we spoke, I believe it was because I’d said something along the lines of “I know white guys aren’t supposed to talk about one black dude looking like another, but Mike Singletary really reminds me of David Alan Grier.” About an hour later, I was blown away when I received a Tweet from David saying, “No, he doesn’t look like me, but he does look like my brother.” We’ve BS’d once or twice since, and the guy always comes off like the coolest sonofabitch on the planet. Give him a follow and a hello.
I can tell you exactly when I gave Gilbert a follow: It was the day Greg Giraldo died. While every other comedian was tripping over themselves to see who could pull a “Hey, there’s a real person behind the laughter” move and talk about what a loss to the comedy world Greg’s passing was, Gilbert Tweeted the following:
When later asked if he regretted his words, Gilbert replied, “Greg can’t say anything about it now … I’m not worried about him calling and complaining.” Balls like watermelons, my friends. Balls like watermelons.
I honestly have no idea who the hell Caprice Crane is or what she does, but she has 50,000 or so followers and lets loose with some hilarious Tweets, so she’s all good in my book. Besides, dark hair and duct tape over the mouth are two of the sexiest adornments a woman can wear. Check her out.
