Reviewing Pixels Without Having Seen It
The trajectory of Adam Sandler’s career is nothing if not fascinating. 20 years ago, he could do no wrong. In the middle of a very popular SNL stint, he released […]
This past Friday, the world awoke to find every mention of Hulk Hogan, the man who put the WWF (I refuse to say WWE) on the map, scrubbed from the company’s website. Their store. Their clips. Their history. Everything. It would be like the Yankees removed Babe Ruth from their records. If Babe Ruth hit scripted home runs and did massive amounts of steroids. But it was still a very, very perplexing move. Briefly.
By Friday afternoon, it started to make the rounds that Hulk Hogan had possibly been captured on tape (specifically, a sex tape that was made of him banging Bubba the Love Sponge’s wife) saying a certain word that, currently, has the power to make a non-black celebrity’s career completely disappear. I’m talking Superman turning the world backwards to save Lois Lane, but 30 years worth of it. After a press release from the WWF saying it was dedicated to preserving and celebrating diversity and one from Hulk Hogan discussing saying things he deeply regretted, this was all but confirmed.
Since both racial hyper sensitivity and rasslin’ are ridiculous (and we have the intellectual capacity of five-year-olds), we dissect this story on the show like it’s the Kennedy Assassination. On top of that, we manage to find time for Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj fighting, Donald Trump’s presidential run and a diner owner losing her shit on a kid that wouldn’t shut up because his parents made no effort to soothe him as he raved out while in the woman’s establishment. It’s a good one. I’m not an impartial judge, but it’s good.
