Reviewing Jeff, Who Lives At Home Without Having Seen It

admin March 16, 2012

Jason Segel looks like the man of action here, so I guess that would make Ed Helms Jeff, the man whose life needs rousing. Or it's the other way around. This isn't a science, people.

Jeff, Who Lives At Home is the other movie I’m turning my attention to today. It’s apparently a comedy. About a guy who lives at home, one would be punctilious in assuming. I’m sure whichever character doesn’t play Jeff is responsible for getting Jeff out of his shell and, in a climactic scene, moving out of his parents’ house.

Let me tell you why movies like this invariably suck ass: Adults don’t live at home because they just need a gentle nudge to leave. They’re either in a bind financially or mentally crippled (in some cases both), and some jive jackass coming into their life and pointing out the perks of being on their own won’t change much. It isn’t like Jeff will get an earful of the wonders of independent living and exclaim, “You mean I can have sex without having to cup my hand over the woman’s mouth while whispering ‘Don’t cum too loudly because it will wake up my mom?'” before immediately packing his bags. What would make this movie great is if Jeff somehow dragged the other guy down to his level and they both wound up back at home. Now I’m laughing.
