Is Taco Bell Not Beef?
I apologize for the title, which sounds like a line from Shylock’s “If you prick us, do we not bleed?” speech in The Merchant of Venice. An Alabama law firm […]
I don’t feel very proud admitting this, but last night, I skipped watching the State of the Union address. At first, I felt no remorse about the decision, but it didn’t take long for the Tweets tagged with “#SOTU” to begin popping up in greater and greater number. And, while I don’t give a crap when I’m not watching along when the “#Sharktopus” and “#TheWalkingDead” hashtags start to fly, this one left me feeling a little ignorant.
I simply fail to comprehend how people can get excited about politics. The way I see it, the American political system is fundamentally flawed, and, no matter who is in power, big business and special interests actually run the show. When will we, as a nation, come to our senses, come to our senses and embrace Thunderdome, the one form of law that’s ever been proven to work?
Don’t get me wrong: I like President Obama. He’s an intelligent guy and I actually do hope he has a secret socialist agenda because part-time radio work pays nothing and I’m sick of viewing non-value menu items at fast food restaurants as too “high cotton” for my wallet. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to spend an hour listening to someone jaw on about a series of matters in which I have no say and wasn’t particularly interested in to begin with. If I were into that sort of thing, I’d have gotten married years ago. Hiyo!
(PS-This is what I watched in lieu of the State of the Union. Not even the entire episode. Just this scene, over and over.)
