I Used to Think Randy Moss Looked Like Omar Little (Now I Just Think I’m Racist)

It’s usually off limits for white guys to say one black man looks like another because the stereotype is we can’t tell black guys apart. Let me state for the record that I bat a better average at this than most and can tell apart all nine members of the Wu-Tang Clan’s classic lineup, which is impressive as a white guy being able to dunk. But even I tend to steer clear of ever telling a black guy he ever looks like another black guy because it’s shakey ground and maybe, just maybe, your fat black friend doesn’t want to be reminded that he looks like an Anthony Anderson who “really let himself go.” (Have I actually said that about someone before? Yes.)


With that preamble out of the way, I’d just like to state that, for the longest time, I used to find NFL wide receiver Randy Moss incredibly evocative of Omar Little of HBO’s The Wire. So much so that, any time Randy Moss came up in the news, I’d simply refer to him as Omar Little and everyone would have a good laugh. Then, due to Moss’ second trade in the span of a month earlier this week, I decided to write an article about it. And you know what I found out? Randy doesn’t look all that much like Omar Little.


Sure, they both have facial hair and wear do rags, but that seems to be the extent of the similarity. I kinda started feeling bad about publishing entire thing, actually, until: 1. I realized that I’d already put 30 minutes of writing into it, which trumped any mild feelings of guilt and 2. I found this picture of a fan in the stands allegedly dressed up like Randy-

I feel like Malcom X compared to this guy. I can’t even tell if that’s a white guy in blackface or a black guy in blackface, but it’s my get out of jail free card and how I’m ending this thing because it’s time for work. Enjoy!
