Bad Santa: The Best Christmas Movie Ever

admin December 22, 2010

In real life, Billy Bob Thornton is a squirrel-munching hick asshole, but that face in Bad Santa gets me every time.

Most people (aside from those blasphemous Hebrews and sandy scimitar-wielders) have a Christmas movie viewing ritual. Be it A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf or Home Alone, a film that is typically watched on Christmas Eve and filled with happy associations and memories. For me, that movie is Bad Santa.

It wasn’t love at first sight for me and Bad Santa. In spite of my filthy mouth, I despise works of art that attempt to skate by on shock value alone, which is all I thought the film offered. It wasn’t until years after its release that I finally caught the movie on HBO one December evening. Immediately I was converted.

Bad Santa even has T&A! Sure, Billy Bob is in the scene, but, after Monster's Ball, I've learned to work around that.

I’m not going to rehash the movie’s plot, because that’s lame and I’m suffering from a horrible bout of the itis after eating a stack of pancakes the size of Rex Ryan’s love of feet. But if you haven’t seen Bad Santa, give it a try. It’s one of the more quotable movies ever (not to mention fantastic source of sound bites if you work in radio). Also, if you do watch Bad Santa after reading this article and love it, please leave me a comment. Because “The gift of Bad Santa” will count as my Christmas present to you, absolving me of any other gift-giving duties. Merry Christmas!

In the spirit of the season, click here to order Bad Santa via Amazon. Because if you think Jesus wasn’t born so that I could make me money via your clicking on that affiliate link, maybe you need to re-read your Bible, friend.

Ha! I’ve actually never seen Bad Santa but may now have to check the Netflix for it. The gift of a movie rec is always much appreciated!

I’ll have you know that this particular blasphemous Hebrew counts “Christmas Vacation” and “Friday After Next” as go-to Xmas flicks.

My BF, who is also of the Hebrew persuasion, prefers “Die Hard.” Go figure.

P.S. Don’t get me started on what a noxious shitburger “It’s A Wonderful Life” is. #unpopularopinion

Bad Santa is one of the very few movies we own. Yes, we sit down with festive adult beverages and watch it every year. It’s a wonderful movie.

I always think of “Die Hard” as my Christmas movie. I mean, it takes place at Christmas and all. Strangely. so does “Lethal Weapon.”
