Mary J. Blige’s commercial for Burger King chicken wraps was pulled from the company’s YouTube page this week after an outrcy from the online community about a black lady singing the praises of fried chicken. Because God forbid a person of color enjoy the wonder that is succulent, sweet bird. Corporations are ruining this country. Black people sometimes eat fried chicken. They might even take a nap now and again, too. I know, just like you and me!
In the quest to not offend a single special interest group (because no person is actually bothered by this stuff), every black person is now portrayed in commercials as physically fit, brilliant and taciturn. If I were black, I’d be worried there was a secret corporate agenda to make middle America believe that all of us are Morpheus from The Matrix.
